This December, twenty-two Los Angeles-based organizations graduated from the inaugural cohort of the LA County Economic Mobility Initiative (EMI) Social Enterprise Training Program Incubator!

The EMI Incubator launched in August 2024, in partnership with the REDF, the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity, the Center for Nonprofit Management Los Angeles (CNM), and our friends at Nearby Consulting. REDF’s own Kennedy Joseph has served as project manager.

We have partnered with these organizations as they prepare to launch revenue-generating social enterprises. Over four months of workshops, the cohort has developed feasibility analyses for their social enterprise concepts. Organizations that have completed these analyses also received coaching to help transform their findings into funding applications. These applications will be submitted to the United Way Prosperity Fund, which will support successful pilots launching in 2025.

We had a goal for 20% of this cohort to be ready to move forward with an application for pilot funding for their social enterprise — but through our collaboration, 80% of organizations are application-ready!

Congratulations to all the graduating organizations! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish from here:
