Playa Vista Job Opportunities and Business Services (PVJOBS)

Playa Vista Job Opportunities and Business Services (PVJOBS) is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1998 to fulfill a Los Angeles City Council mandate to provide at-risk residents with construction job opportunities at the Playa Vista development site. Over the years, PVJOBS has become a national leader for job programs serving at-risk individuals. Today, PVJOBS maintains contracts with numerous development projects throughout greater Los Angeles. More than 130 community-based organizations have partnered with PVJOBS to refer individuals to our program for employment preparation, pre-apprenticeship training and job placement.

PVJOBS provides participants with the technical and soft skills needed to succeed in today’s economy. With an emphasis placed on middle-class employment opportunities that provide health insurance benefits, pension plans and regular pay increases, PVJOBS secures most employment opportunities from local construction projects that are union affiliated. The Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building Trades Council and the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters work with PVJOBS in this effort.

Because paying union initiation fees, construction tools and clothing can be an employment barrier for some, PVJOBS makes supportive services available through our collaborative partnerships to help participants cover these costs.

Reinforcement of PVJOBS’ goal to provide career-track employment opportunities to its participants, we are committed to supplying a minimum of 3,000 hours of labor to each individual worker. This is accomplished by re-referring PVJOBS participants to similar trade positions once they have completed employment contracts or have been laid off. PVJOBS also encourages construction companies to retain PVJOBS workers by assigning them to their other projects.

PVJOBS has served nearly 20,000 Los Angeles residents over the past two decades and has placed more than 8,000 participants in career-track employment positions, all while maintaining less than a 20% recidivism rate, 70% employment rate, and 87% retention rate.
