Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Impact Lending, the Underwriting Consultant will be responsible for underwriting loans to employment social enterprises (ESEs), which are revenue-generating, for-profit or non-profit double bottom line companies. You will be doing rigorous financial, operational and organizational analysis in both qualitative and quantitative formats, and synthesizing findings into underwriting memos to an internal audience.

Responsibilities

Loan Underwriting
• Perform due diligence analyses of borrower financials, operations, programs, and management, using both company and environmental factors.
• Produce robust financial models and perform scenario analyses, build and sensitize cash flow projections, assess creditworthiness and borrower ability to repay debt, identify risks and mitigants, and construct narrative on borrower background, history, and plans for growth.
• Flag and escalate issues of concern during underwriting and propose potential solutions as it may relate to risk mitigation, working closely with Director of Impact Lending as necessary.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years’ underwriting experience within lending (commercial banking or CDFI lending preferred) or impact investing.
• Experience working with both for‐profit and non‐profit borrowers strongly preferred, with an ability to integrate double-bottom line metrics.
• Demonstrated expertise in cash flow-based credit analysis and financial and operational due diligence of small businesses is required. Experience with priority lending sectors a plus.
• Strong financial modeling and financial statement analysis skills.
• Proven ability to synthesize and communicate findings in writing in underwriting memos to an internal audience.
• Proven ability to identify areas of further information needs and requests from borrowers.
• Excellent judgement, ability to efficiently incorporate feedback, and a track record of meeting pr0ject milestones and deadlines.
• Proficiency using Salesforce to enter borrower information and track incoming materials.
• MBA preferred; or other graduate degrees or experience demonstrating qualifications above.

Compensation

$60-75 hourly rate, dependent on experience
