Accelerator Program Manager

San Francisco or Los Angeles, CA – remote until Q2 2021

REDF (the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund) is a pioneering venture philanthropy accelerating a national movement of employment social enterprises—mission-driven, revenue-generating businesses that help people striving to overcome employment barriers get jobs, keep jobs, and build a better life. For people with histories of incarceration, homelessness, mental illness, addiction, and young people who are not in school or working, social enterprises provide the paying, transitional jobs and services they need to stabilize their lives, develop a work history, and build skills and confidence. When employees are ready, social enterprises help them find competitive employment.

Research shows this approach works. It leads to greater economic security and mobility and a significant rate of return to society—$2.23 in benefits for every $1 spent.

Since 1997, REDF has invested in 215 social enterprises in 30 states and the District of Columbia. To date, those businesses have earned over $1 billion in revenue and employed over 60,000 people (and counting).

Position Description: Accelerator Program Manager

REDF launched an Accelerator Program in 2016 to bring together a cohort of dedicated and talented social enterprise leaders who serve people striving to overcome barriers to employment. Through this program, leaders receive expert guidance on core business competencies, and build a unique peer network, ultimately helping them increase long-term employment success for the people they serve.

The Accelerator Program Manager will oversee the on-going program design process and end-to-end program execution including application cycle, selection, cohort support, relationship-building, and various resource allocations. The Accelerator Program Manager will also continuously work to improve REDF’s own understanding about what works in social enterprise acceleration and how to incorporate that back into this program.

Essential Responsibilities

      1. Program Management & Cohort Support
      • Execute three multi-day peer learning workshop events (virtual and/or in-person) for cohort of 16-18 over a 5-month period, one to two times per year
      • Facilitate virtual learning opportunities in between the three sessions
      • Manage cohort learning experience to be inclusive and equitable, in line with REDF’s DEI principles
      • Manage and ensure successful collaboration with external vendors and partners that provide support in logistics and event management, facilitation and content delivery, curriculum design, and other consultants as necessary
      1. Curriculum Planning & Design
      • In partnership with Associate Director, you will create the next model of the REDF Accelerator that will launch in early 2021 and continuously incorporate feedback to improve program offerings and success
      • Manage the design of a cohort-based peer-learning experience that supports ESE’s business, program, and leadership management goals
      • Lead the design and facilitation of curriculum that enables peer learning – in a virtual and in-person setting
      • Work to integrate curriculum from other REDF programs into Accelerator
      • Monitor and incorporate data on program outcomes to embed a continuous learning approach into Accelerator program and contribute to strategy implementation
      • Stay informed about other (external) accelerator-type programs to inform strategy and decision-making; create and maintain relationships with other comparable programs to support learning and outreach efforts
      1. Cross-team Collaboration
      • Manage collaboration across teams to ensure smooth execution of program
      • You will partner with many REDF teams focusing particularly with:
        • REDF Outreach team to define and align outreach and recruiting goals and priorities
        • Marketing team to ensure the appropriate communication of REDF Accelerator opportunities
        • Community team to ensure the smooth transition of graduating Accelerator alumni
        • Capacity Building team to ensure Accelerator learning curriculum and content aligns with other REDF programs
      1. Recruiting, Selection and Onboarding
      • Refine and manage the selection process for 2021; execute a bi-annual application and selection process in 2022-2025.
      • Partner with Outreach team to ensure those social enterprise leaders that meet the criteria apply and begin to build a relationship with REDF regardless of acceptance.
      • Build relationships with each social enterprise leader supporting their application, onboarding, and hand-off to the internal Community Team when they become alumni
      • Manage cohort selection process to be inclusive and equitable, in line with REDF’s DEI principles
      1. Data & Learning
      • Ensure that feedback and learnings from adjacent programs are being incorporated back into the operations and selection process for the Accelerator
      • Partner with Learning and Evidence team to capture data and feedback from ESEs to assess whether activities lead to desired intermediate outcomes
      • Assess and troubleshoot disparities in outcomes (and access) across all participants, specifically POC/LE leaders
      • Identify opportunities to strengthen activities/ curriculum/ facilitation in support of impact goals
      • Document and report cohort ESE progress in Salesforce

Essential Qualifications

Skills

      • Bachelors or master’s degree or equivalent, and 3-5 years of program management
      • Exceptional project management skills and attention to detail
      • Comfortable developing systems and processes in a fast-moving, often ambiguous environment
      • Experience working with entrepreneurs, social enterprises, nonprofit-run businesses, and/or small businesses
      • Experience facilitating workshops and delivering content to cohort adult learners
      • Strong analytical skills; able to conduct analysis for projects, draw conclusions, and make concrete, actionable recommendations based on data and analysis
      • Comfort with using data and data systems, especially Salesforce, to track data and drive insights
      • Proactive in initiating cross-team collaboration; ability to see across REDF’s program and navigate competing priorities
      • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact, and patience, both in-person and written
      • Ability to work with people with a range of cultural backgrounds, skill levels, and experience

      • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, as permitted by public health conditions

Desired Qualifications

      • Experience running Accelerator, Incubator programs or advising/coaching social entrepreneurs and/or social enterprises
      • Understanding of human-centered design and can tap those principles to create more effective services and experiences
      • Experience creating events that focus on experiential learning
      • Experience with workforce development or job training/creation programs employing those with significant barriers to employment
