REDF Adds to Business Bench on Board of Directors with Addition of Lewis Byrd, Lancs Industries
Byrd Joins Board Representatives from Google, Facebook, Labrador Ventures, Sonen Capital, and Coherus BioSciences
SAN FRANCISCO (July 27, 2015) — Lewis Byrd, President of Lancs Industries, has joined REDF’s board of directors. Since 1997, when George R. Roberts, Co-Chairman of the private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts (KKR) founded the organization, REDF has helped create employment opportunities for individuals facing the greatest barriers to work, including people who were formerly incarcerated or homeless, young people who are not in school or working, and those who live with mental health disabilities.
Lancs Industries manufactures products that reduce risk and increase the safety of workers in potentially hazardous radioactive environments. Prior to Lancs Industries, Mr. Byrd served as General Partner of the private equity firm Opportunity Capital Partners, for almost 20 years. He served as a member of both the Harvard University and Harvard Business School Alumni Association Boards, Chair of the Board of Trustees of SFJAZZ, and numerous private companies. Mr. Byrd earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics at Harvard University and an MBA in general management at the Harvard Business School.
“REDF is committed to expanding partnerships with the business community as we look to create long-term and sustainable employment opportunities for underserved populations,” said Carla Javits, REDF President & CEO. “Lewis brings tremendous expertise and a longstanding commitment to community impact to the table that will benefit REDF greatly as we grow.”
“As Board Chair of the Tri-City Homeless Coalition in Fremont, California, I have seen how non-profit organizations can provide meaningful employment opportunities to members of underserved communities, and I look forward to working with REDF and its partners to further these efforts”, said Lewis Byrd.
As a member of REDF’s board of directors, Mr. Byrd joins fellow business leaders such as Vice-Chair Stuart Davidson, Managing Partner Labrador Venture and Chairman of Sonen Capital; Adam Smith, Director, Product Management, Google; Dan Rose, Vice President, Partnerships at Facebook; and George Montgomery, Chief Financial Officer at Coherus BioSciences.
