Farber Program History

In 1997, REDF established the Farber Interns and Fellows Program in partnership with the Phalarope Foundation in honor of the life and work of Michael E. Farber, who passed away in 1996. During his tenure at Rubicon Programs from 1989 to 1996, Mike brought about dramatic growth in Rubicon’s enterprises, and specifically Rubicon Bakery. Through his demonstrated entrepreneurial talent, business acumen, and passion for serving those who are disabled, homeless, or otherwise economically disadvantaged, Mike was an exemplar of the new social entrepreneur.
In honor of Mike’s pioneering work in the field of social entrepreneurship, REDF created the Farber Interns Program (summer internships for MBA students) and Farber Fellows Program (full-year fellowships for MBA graduates and individuals in business) in order to encourage and cultivate new social entrepreneurs.
